I wrote even less in 2023 than I did in 2022 — as in, I didn’t write anything at all. With the benefit of hindsight, that may be no small part of why I felt so miserable by the time the ball dropped.

Here’s a very long and belated listicle comprised of miniature essays about three video games and five books to try and make up for it. The movies, and we gon’ be talking about a whole lotta movies, are over here.

Maybe next year I’ll take a crack at TV.

(As was the case last year: this is a “favorite” list and not a “best of” list because I’m not a professional critic or someone with the pedigree to be taken as such. I’m just a verbose dork with oscillating amounts of free time, an aversion to certain genres, a modest budget, and a gargantuan backlog stemming back to the Bush Administration. As such, a lot of critically acclaimed entries that you might see on other lists won’t end up here; unless directly stated otherwise, you shouldn’t necessarily take their absence as a commentary on their quality.)

That all said, Julie! John! Let’s take the good people out for a dance.
