Greg Abbott Just Won the War on Christmas

Those pesky leftists wish they could assault the reason for the season as definitely as Texas’ governor did on Christmas Eve.

I went to church for the first time in months on Christmas Eve with my family. It’s how we (mostly) godless liberals do.

Over the course of the evening, between greeting the elders of my congregation and keeping my nieces and nephews from accidentally setting a pew on fire, I listened to a story I’ve heard countless times — a story I never get tired of hearing.

There’s a part in the story where Joseph and a heavily pregnant Mary look for lodging in the little town of Bethlehem, and are turned away at every turn, because ever inn is packed. At the last minute, an innkeeper with a full house offers to let the desperate soon-to-be family of three crash in the stables. Thus, we’re left with the timeless iconography of the Nativity — mankind’s savior being laid in a manger by his parents, attended to by farm animals, shepherds, three foreign wise men with timelessly goofy names, and a little drummer boy parumpumpumpumming his heart out.
